According to Aaron McArthur from Global News, “Health Canada has given the green light for psychedelic drugs such as MDMA and magic mushrooms to be used for medical purposes.”

Gemma Rosa from Mixmag reports, “Canada has amended federal regulations now allowing patients suffering from life-threatening mental illnesses to be treated with MDMA psychedelic drug psilocybin.”

Whereas previously, psychedelics have only been permitted in approved cases of palliative care, their access is now being expanded to reduce the suffering of those with severe mental illness. The Special Access Program will allow access to Psilocybin and MDMA for those who therapy is not practical or effective.

Health care professionals have assured Canadians that psychedelics will only be used “in a controlled, individualized fashion” under “conventional supervised therapy”.

The Canadian Government’s official communication stated, “There has been emerging scientific evidence supporting potential therapeutic uses for some restricted drugs, most notably psychedelic restricted drugs such as MDMA and psilocybin.”
